Steam drops support for SteamVR on macOS indefinitely. Cut! Cut! This is the culmination of an incredibly limited period. Steam launched SteamVR back in the mists of time — the Worldwide Developers Conference 2017—for Apple computers. As TechiCovery then wrote: “Valve has been working on this with Apple since last summer, demonstrating a strong degree of technological and company trust in Apple’s VR efforts.”
The transition was revealed in a short post on the news page for SteamVR, laid out in a single sentence: “SteamVR has finished supporting macOS so our team can concentrate on Windows and Linux.” Mac users will still have some access to the app, but via legacy builds. One door shuts, and certainly, another must appear. Exactly right?
