The new high-end smartphone, the Mate 40 Pro, was released by Huawei and we had one of the first units for testing under the DXOMARK Camera test protocol version 4. The design of the camera is somewhat similar to the P40 Pro that was released earlier this year, although there are several minor changes.
The main camera of the Mate 40 Pro does not have an optical stabilization system, but otherwise has the same 1/1.28′′ sensor and f/1.9-aperture lens as the variant of the P-series. The ultra-wide camera retains the f/1.8 aperture and 18 mm equivalent field of view of the P40 Pro lens, but instead utilizes a larger-pixel 20 MP sensor instead of 40 MP.
The 5x tele-camera ‘s specifications remain unchanged. With comparatively few modifications compared to the camera specs of the P40 Pro, we were interested to see if the Huawei engineers were able to further improve image quality and camera performance on the new edition.

Huawei hasn’t skimped on the smaller niceties either, and two closely balanced units come with stereo speakers for the Mate 40 Pro. The front-facing ToF cam offers safe face recognition, and there is another IR-based feature to run your old-school TV or AC unit-a blaster up top. In this chapter, an IP68 ranking is also par for the course. Sure, there’s no 3.5 mm jack, but at this point, does that really bother anybody? Plus, in this box, unlike other half-sized sets, there is a headset.
Mate 40 Pro Processor
The next-generation Kirin 9000 processor uses the Mate 40 series.
This is the first, and has eight cores, to use a 5 nm design. At 2.04GHz, four are running, three at 2.54GHz and one at 3.13GHz. It has 15.3 billion transistors and is 10 per cent faster than the 865 +, Huawei has revealed.
In terms of GPU capacity, it’s also 52 percent quicker than Qualcomm’s cpu, a more remarkable number.
As well as being 150% more power efficient, the NPU – the ‘AI’ processor – is 2.4x faster than the competition. The CPU component is 25 percent more effective, while the power usage of the GPU is 50 percent higher.
Mate 40 Pro Cameras
There is a 50Mp sensor with an f/1.9 lens on the main camera. There is an f/3.4 lens on the 12Mp 5x zoom, which is the same as on the P40 Pro again.
The ultra-wide-the main video lens-is not from the P40 Pro and it has an f/1.8 aperture resolution of 20Mp.
With a 13Mp selfie camera (a far lower resolution than the 32Mp camera in recent versions of the P-series) and an ultra-wide 13Mp camera next to it, things get interesting on the front. When they sense several individuals in the picture, they can turn automatically, and it even functions like a cine camera, which ensures it can film 4K60 and unrestricted 240fps slo-mo much like the rear.
Together, they support 3D face scanning for more safe face unlocking as well as Smart Sensing movements, such as running your hand across the screen to swipe or scroll without touching it. This is also a function the Mate 30 Pro
